Disney Lorcana Sealed Products Explained: Booster Boxes, Troves, Starter Decks and Gift Sets
Disney Lorcana has grown into one of the most collected trading card games in Canada, and every new set arrives with a familiar line-up of sealed products. If you are not sure whether you want a booster box, an Illumineer’s Trove or a starter deck, this guide walks through what is inside each one and who it suits best.
Booster packs and booster boxes
A Lorcana booster pack holds 12 cards: six commons, three uncommons, two cards of rare or higher, and one foil. A booster box contains 24 packs. Boxes are the product most collectors and competitive players buy, because the per-pack price is lower than buying packs individually and a full box gives you a realistic shot at the set’s enchanted and legendary cards.
Buy a booster box if you want to open a lot of cards, chase high-end pulls, or build a trade binder for a new set.
Illumineer’s Trove
The Trove is the premium box for each set. It typically includes eight booster packs, a full-art storage box, two deck boxes, a player guide and a set of damage counters or dice. If you are starting a collection from scratch, the Trove gives you packs plus the accessories you would otherwise buy separately.
Starter decks
Each set ships with pre-built 60-card starter decks in two-ink combinations, usually with a booster pack included. They are the cheapest way to learn the game and are legal to play right out of the box. New players should grab a starter deck first, then add booster packs to upgrade it.
Gift sets and collection boxes
Gift Sets, Collection Starter Sets and character boxes bundle promo foil cards with a handful of boosters and sometimes playmats or sleeves. They are great presents and a good way to pick up exclusive alternate-art versions of popular characters like Stitch, Elsa or Scrooge McDuck.
Which set should you start with?
Older sets such as The First Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn have become harder to find sealed, so prices have moved up. Current sets like Whispers in the Well and Winterspell are the easiest to buy at retail price and are what most local events are playing. If your goal is playing, buy current. If your goal is collecting, a mix of a current booster box and an older Trove is a strong starting point.
